Within the SADCO project, 1 full PhD position for 3 years is offered by Astos Solutions GmbH, Stuttgart, Germany (see www.astos.de). The position is supposed to start as of 1st March 2011.

  • Description: The PhD is supposed to work in the interdisciplinary project „Large scale systems: sensitivity analysis and numerical methods“ with the aim to develop numerical algorithms for the solution of large-scale nonlinear programming problems as they arise in space applications. The project is jointly supervised by Astos Solutions GmbH, Prof. Dr. Christof Büskens (University of Bremen), and Prof. Dr. Matthias Gerdts (Universität der Bundeswehr München). The PhD is supposed to participate in the training network SADCO with the opportunity of extended research stays at universities and the industrial partner Astos Solutions GmbH.
  • Qualifications:
    • MSc degree in mathematics or a related subject
    • background in optimal control and/or nonlinear programming desirable
    • interest in developing, analyzing, and realizing mathematical algorithms and concepts in applications
